Happy Equinox!
It’s the day of equal day and equal night, when the sun rises due east and sets due west. Unlike the solstices, when the sun swings to extremes, the equinox is all about balance—light and dark, within us and in the cosmos.
I just came back from an incredible symposium filled with top scientists, philosophers, and psychologists exploring where humanity is headed. One key takeaway? There are two fundamental forces in the universe: retraction and expansion. To me, that mirrors the equinox—light and dark, inner and outer.
For most of my adult life, I was anything but balanced.
I lived in constant chaos, swinging between extremes:
- Overdoing, chasing worth through busyness and perfectionism.
- Crashing into overwhelm, numbing out with junk food and streaming marathons.
It was an exhausting loop of anxiety-driven overachievement followed by depression. Breaking free felt impossible—until I discovered shadow work.
Shadow work showed me the unconscious patterns driving my chaos. It gave me a way to bring the unseen into the light, reclaiming the parts of myself I’d been suppressing. Instead of letting my shadow run the show behind the scenes, I started to integrate it.
And that’s the real secret about balance:
Balance isn’t about leaning harder into the light or bypassing the dark. Balance is about embracing the shadow so we can step into true wholeness—dark and light.
Astrology backs this up. This equinox brings a powerful “kite” formation, with the Sun aligned in geometric relationship with Pluto, Uranus, Saturn, and Neptune. At the apex sits Neptune, the planet of dreams, visions, and universal love—but also illusions and delusions.
Neptune invites us to connect with our hearts, to move beyond fear into love. And love, as the symposium presenters emphasized, isn’t just a human feeling. It’s an evolutionary process. It’s how we grow, transform, and move through the underworld initiations of life.
Here’s the truth:
There is no better way to cultivate love than to embrace the dark. When we love ourselves, warts and all—the parts we hide out of shame—they lose their power. They stop running the show. And that’s when we’re truly free.
So on this Equinox, remember:
Balance is not about perfection. It’s about wholeness. It’s about holding both the light and the shadow, and choosing love as the path forward.
