Hello! The Moon just entered Pisces, so it’s that time of feeling all the feels, right?

The Moon connects us to our emotional world, and Pisces amplifies that. Pisces is the space where we do our healing work—and where we support others in theirs. We’re also entering a Mercury retrograde this week, so we’re going to talk about that, along with the last quarter Moon in Aries, which is really inspiring.

Overall, this whole Moon month is asking: How are you taking care of yourself?

I’m Sheridan, your AstroLife Coach, guiding women like you to harness the power of astrology to live with purpose and clarity—turning inner knowing into real-life transformation.

Mercury Retrograde: An Invitation to Slow Down

Mercury goes retrograde on Thursday (or Friday, depending on where you live). The opportunity with any Mercury retrograde is to slow down.

There’s always a moment of stillness when Mercury stations, and from our Earthly perspective, begins moving backward across the sky. Yes, Mercury retrograde is known for disrupting things—especially technology and how we stay plugged in. But how can you use that?

When your emails aren’t working, your internet glitches out, or your phone is being weird—it’s actually an invitation.

Pause.
Breathe.
Slow down.

I think Mercury retrograde has such a bad rap because we’re so linear, so constantly in motion. Anything that slows us down can feel stressful. But truthfully, most of us need to slow down. We need to reconnect—with ourselves, with nature, with the earth. And we need to take a break from endlessly scrolling and just be.

Creativity, the Right Brain & Mercury in Leo

One of the things I love about Mercury retrograde is the chance it gives us to shift out of the linear, left-brain world and connect more deeply to the right brain—our creative, intuitive side.

It’s a great time to ask:

  • What am I creating in my life?

  • What do I want to be creating?

  • Are those two things aligned?

I’m a big writer—I write a weekly astrology column for the Aspen Times—and I love tapping into that creative energy. I have this fantasy of taking every Mercury retrograde as time off just to write, make art, or do something creative—whether that’s cooking, making jewelry, or whatever lights you up.

Mercury is retrograde in Leo this entire cycle, stationing direct on August 11th—also in Leo. So our mind (Mercury)—how we think, perceive, and communicate—is immersed in Leo’s energy the whole time.

Leo is such a creative sign. It’s fire. It’s intuition. It’s our heart knowing. Leo supports us in our creative endeavors. Leo connects us to our soul self—the part of us that just knows who we are—and helps us act from that authentic place.

People often say Leo is arrogant. Sure, there’s a shadow side. But in its highest form, Leo knows:
I am sacred. I am the divine. I create from that place of knowing who I am.
And that’s a beautiful thing. Leo is a beautiful sign!

Aries Quarter Moon & the Call to Self-Care

We also have the last quarter Moon in Aries this week, part of our Cancer Moon month. All the Moon phases this month are in cardinal, “serving-others” signs. So again, the message is:

How are you taking care of yourself?

You can’t serve others when your own cup is empty.

And for those of us with a trauma background (like me—and I know many of you watching can relate), self-care doesn’t always come naturally. We’ve been wired by trauma to be hyper-vigilant—always scanning the environment, staying outwardly focused to feel safe. That’s a valid survival strategy, and it helped us when we were younger.

But now, it can block us from focusing inward.

I’ve had to work really hard to shift from that external focus to truly filling myself up first. I’ve learned I can’t help anyone if I’m depleted. With all the Cancer in my chart, serving others is natural to me—but it’s only sustainable when I’m full.

So, now I lean into my self-connection practices. I do what lights me up—like writing, creating, slowing down with this Mercury retrograde energy.

Prioritize You

This month is a beautiful time to tune into how you prioritize yourself and your own needs. That’s the key to a happy life—and to truly showing up for others.

It’s also a powerful opportunity to uncover those unconscious trauma patterns that keep us stuck in hyper-vigilance, always looking outward. When we begin to shift those patterns, we show up for ourselves in deeper, more nourishing ways.
