Venus enters Taurus today and the full moon is in Libra on Wednesday
Venus slipped into Taurus early this morning, enticing us to pleasure ourselves. Yes, like that — but also toward the full, unapologetic experience of our senses.
I love the feeling in my body when I’m making ski turns through newly softened spring slush. The ease of holding an edge in the sloppy corn snow is one of my highlights for this season. I even like the gluey soup that throws me off balance while traversing catwalks. That grabby snow forces me to engage my core and get centered again.
Not a bad cue for life.
The ever-changing conditions of spring make me feel like a kid again, giddy and grinning, flying through mushy snow, arms spread like a red-tailed hawk. Although to my adult self, the current snowpack feels more like signs of the apocalypse, with all the scabby dirt patches and route finding to get to the bottom. The ski patrol was closing runs right after we skied them at Tiehack last Wednesday, mere hours before Buttermilk closed for good — eleven days early.
Earlier in the week, I got on my e-bike for the first time and felt that same childlike delight — just pedaling (with electric ease) along the trail. Once I moved past the paint-shaker, clopped-out sections from the elk and deer, it was pure glee, moseying with the river. I glanced over at Sky Mountain Park and wondered if the elk were birthing early this year. Any chance of a premature opening? Nah — let the mamas and calves enjoy their peace.
The buds are on the Aspens. Bulbs, tirelessly planted in the fall (thanks to my husband), are springing up. Chives are sprouting, beckoning my desire to plant some March veggie seeds, lulled by a false sense of summer security. This surely means a huge snowstorm is right around the corner.
Spring is quintessential Venus in Taurus to me. Venus represents our feminine sides: embodiment, senses, receptivity. Taurus savors everything the sensual body has on offer. It embodies the very being of beingness — tiptoeing through the tulips, singing a song, skipping along in pure human bliss. This energy loves the smells, the tastes, the sights, sounds, and the feels. Taurus reminds us that living in these bodies ain’t so bad.
Venus and Taurus unite in the sheer pleasure of making love on a spring morning, before drifting into a boozy brunch, then a few warm, slushy turns in a T-shirt and ballcap. There’s no need to “do” anything with these two. Just follow their lead into desire, indulgence, and awakened senses.
This shift of Venus into Taurus dovetails nicely with Wednesday night’s full moon in Libra.
Hanging with any full moon is right up Taurus’ enjoyment-as-its-prime-directive alley, while Libra reminds us to nurture balance in our lives. For most of us, I think that equilibrium requires a swing toward Taurus, not away from it — more simply being, admiring the sunset and the full moon rise, than we’re spending way too much time connecting with ourselves and nature.
Libra seeks to understand itself through the people around it, while Aries, on the opposite pole, individuates and revels in its own power. Libra discovers who it is by being with others — trying on different lives to see what fits — which is why it so naturally becomes the peacekeeper, promoting harmony because it sees itself in everyone. It’s beautiful community-building, but when out of balance, it can become psychologically exhausting. Both Libra and Aries can push beyond their limits; they are, after all, “serving others” focused signs — Aries through protection and personal might, Libra through deep understanding and connection.
As the moon rises this Wednesday night, where do you find yourself on this continuum? Are you more aligned with the Aries sun or the Libra full moon? Does your life feel balanced — between feminine being and masculine doing, between Taurus embodiment and Libra intellect? And where might things feel just a little uneven?
We’re in the early days of spring, still under the balancing influence of the equinox. The sun hovers near its midpoint in the sky, rising and setting along the center of its northerly and southerly swing. Awareness around creating equilibrium is still up for grabs. Venus in Taurus and the Libra full moon remind us to return to what matters and to notice how well we’re honoring our real priorities. Wishing you some self-pleasuring slushy spring turns and a little of that childlike aliveness in your heart, despite the drought gloom
