Neptune stations direct while we’re in the thick of the hero’s initiation — why your inner work now shapes the world to come

For years, I’ve felt increasingly frustrated with modern astrology’s obsession with prediction — as if the planets were fortune cookies instead of living archetypal energies. Saturn and Mars reduced to the bad guys, are harbingers of restriction and conflict. Jupiter and Venus the glittery positives, flattened into one-dimensional “good vibes only” planets. None of which matched my lived experience or what I saw in clients. It all felt too small, too limited, too disconnected from the deeper mythic currents shaping our lives.

When I discovered Richard Tarnas’ work on archetypal astrology, everything inside me exhaled. His way of seeing the cosmos — rich, symbolic, psychological, spiritually alive — validated what I sensed. The cosmos doesn’t dictate events; it mirrors the inner and collective movements of our souls. Reading Tarnas’ book “Cosmos and Psyche” felt like coming home.

As Neptune stations direct this Wednesday, the planet associated with dissolving illusion and sharpening intuition, it feels fitting to share a glimpse from my recent interview with Tarnas, one of my heroes in astrology, Jungian psychology, and philosophy. His insights offer a keen framework for the moment we’re currently living through — one that doesn’t sugarcoat or spiritual bypass — but instead calls us deeper into the vital work required of us now.
