What Venus Can Teach Us About Boundaries, Peace, and the Power of the Feminine

In my very first college class, we read The Feminine Mystique, and it cracked something wide open in me. Suddenly, I could see sexism everywhere—it was like a spiritual awakening that expanded my world.

Unbeknownst to me, I’d landed in the feminist college at UC Santa Cruz. I didn’t choose it consciously for that reason—I just liked that we had apartments with kitchens! But that one innocent decision would shape the course of my entire life.

Fast forward to about ten years ago, when I first learned about the Venus cycle—and discovered that the very first written story in human history is about it. Let that sink in: humanity’s first-ever written story centers on Venus, the goddess, the feminine.

How profound—and how telling.

Because here we are again, in another moment where society is trying to push women back into the kitchen, barefoot and pregnant, promising that’s where we’ll “really be happy.” As if we’re not capable of knowing what we truly want, what lights us up, or what gives our lives meaning. The echoes of The Feminine Mystique still ring loudly today.

Venus in Libra: The Peacemaker and Her Boundaries

This week, Venus enters Libra—the archetype of the peacemaker and harmonizer. It’s such a classic feminine role: keeping the peace at all costs, often at our own expense.

We’re taught that our value lies in making others happy, keeping our relationships harmonious, and smoothing everything over—even when something doesn’t feel right to us.

But what happens to us in the process?

This is a boundary issue, deeply tied to limiting beliefs like:

  •   “I’m only valuable if I keep the peace.”
  •   “I’ll be abandoned if I speak up.”
  •   “No one will love me if I rock the boat.”

The truth is, those beliefs aren’t facts—they just feel like they are.

This week invites us to notice where we’ve been crossing our own boundaries for love, safety, or acceptance. Venus in Libra—and her meeting with the Moon on Sunday—opens a doorway for healing that.

The Root Chakra: Grounding the Feminine

In the Venus cycle’s sacred story, this is the point where Venus, representing the Divine Feminine, moves into the root chakra. For the next month, we have the opportunity to work through blocks to feeling grounded, safe, and at home on the earth.

This is about finding true peace—not the performative peace of pleasing others, but the deep, embodied peace that comes from knowing and honoring yourself.

The Cosmic Context

We’re also in a Cancer Last Quarter Moon, which, if you’ve been following along with my Aspen Times astrology column, two weeks ago I wrote (Moon Mondays: Living by the moon, a path to real change) and this last quarter moon is our next checkpoint in this lunar cycle.
Ask yourself: What’s my focus this week? Where am I ready to release and realign?

At the same time, Pluto goes direct, forming a sextile to Saturn and Neptune and a trine to Uranus. These are wild times! The underworld energies of transformation are strong—we’re still in the process of change, not yet at the new beginning. The only way forward is through the shadow work, both personally and collectively.

And next week brings even more shift: the Libra New Moon and the Sun entering Scorpio. That means Halloween is right around the corner—one of my favorite holidays—where we get to lean into our shadow and dark sides!

Until then, wishing you an empowered sacred feminine week.
