Mercury asks what you really want
Despite countless efforts to the contrary, I feel like I’ve spent most of my life pretty unconscious. I thought I was aware. I was smart. I devoured self-help books. I dipped my toes into multiple spiritual practices. I imagined I was doing better than most.
There’s my first clue that I wasn’t nearly as conscious as I thought: judgment.
I’d talked through hundreds of hours of therapy. I existed hyperaware of a litany of issues and the trauma that initiated them. But when life coaching — something else I’d ignorantly judged — appeared in my view, how unconsciously I’d been merely surviving my life smacked me right in the face. Honestly, it was both shocking and liberating.
Once I understood the undesired patterns driving my RFTA bus were rooted in old unconscious beliefs, I grabbed the wheel back. I squeegeed the windows muddying my deep hidden thoughts. Knowledge changed everything. Patterns like eating junk, streaming far more than I wanted, and pushing myself to the point of collapse, started shifting once I sat my conscious adult mind in the driver’s seat and began steering myself deliberately. Talk about empowerment.
Mercury, our planet of consciousness and awareness, is highlighted this week. Well, that… and the Taurus new moon.
I think of Mercury as representing our internal software system — the coding in our brains that filters how we see and interpret the world. It plays a starring role in our concealed opinions about ourselves. This trickster deity relishes pulling the wool over our eyes. The intention is ultimately to wake us up. Nothing like the pinprick of pain to motivate us to stop jabbing ourselves.
Mercury meets exactly with the sun on Thursday morning in an alignment called “cazimi,” an ancient term meaning “in the heart of the sun,” where the planet, and our unconsciousness, can be purified and cleansed in the fiery solar rays.
On Sunday, Mercury shifts from Taurus into Gemini, immediately meeting with Uranus. I wrote about Uranus’ shift into Gemini a couple of weeks ago in Moon Mondays: We’ve been here before — and it didn’t end quietly. Our winged messenger planet is activated by both the sun and Uranus this week.
Mercury joining the sun in Taurus reveals a slower-moving mental process, more feeling than thinking. When Mercury meets with the sun, their energies are amplified. The sun is our light and vision, Mercury, our thoughts and communication. In Taurus, these two bring greater awareness to our bodies and how we’re attuning to our vision and crafting our dreams in physical reality.
Are there dreams you’ve had that you’ve been ignoring? What are they? Mercury and the sun want you to at least admit them to yourself. You don’t have to act yet. Just land on what’s really going on with your desires and aspirations. Be honest with yourself. That’s what Mercury cazimi in Taurus invites: self-reflection.
On Saturday, the moon conjuncts the sun for the Taurus new moon. This is an ideal time to set an intention around your goals. The sun and moon represent spirit and soul respectively, so when these two meet each month, they provide a united front to ask for what you most want. You do have to apply a little elbow grease eventually, but for now, you can simply begin by asking.
As Mercury enters Gemini, awareness comes lightning-fast, often unable to slow down long enough to complete a thought. Use this energetic shift to challenge yourself to make a move toward what you’ve secretly been craving. Gemini is full of unique, out-of-the-box ideas it can’t wait to share with you.
Once you crack that door, you might not be able to control the download, so keep a pen or your phone handy. The key is allowing rather than resisting or shutting it down with the soul-crushing question of how you’re going to make it happen. The how can come later. Don’t let practicality impede this initial flow.
Mercury quickly passes by Uranus; another alignment primed for consciousness-raising. Uranus plugs us into universal consciousness. Again, let the thoughts flow in. The information is traveling from somewhere bigger, beyond the sun. Trust what arrives. You can sort through it all later. This week is more about communicating honestly with yourself. See what comes through when you finally admit what you’ve secretly been wanting.
