Tonight’s astrology has fins in the water
I’m pumped about today’s astrology. Mars, Venus, and the moon are all changing signs, and then the latter two meet up — all tonight. After that, the sun joins the sign-shifting action when it moves into Gemini on Wednesday. More rapidly shifting energies are launching us into our week.
One of my favorite parts of astrology is astronomy. They were once one and the same before Newton surgically separated them. His predecessors, Galileo and Kepler, were both practicing astrologers. Witnessing celestial events unfold in the sky, while noticing the changes on the land, and feeling the corresponding energies shift internally — fascinates me to no end.
I’m not into the whole astrology prediction thing or all this “super bad stuff is going to happen” nonsense. Instead, the sky is a mirror reflection of the energetic soup in which we’re all swimming — planets and humans alike. By looking up, we can better understand within. As Hermes Trismegistus is said to have written in The Emerald Tablets, “That which is Below corresponds to that which is Above, and that which is Above corresponds to that which is Below, to accomplish the miracle of the One Thing.” We’re all living through it together.
Well, today’s above is loaded. Just tonight: Mars enters Taurus, Venus enters Cancer, and the moon conjuncts (joins with) Venus.
Check out tonight’s timing: Mars enters Taurus at 6:25 p.m. Venus enters Cancer at 7:05 p.m. The moon enters Cancer at 7:46 p.m. The moon and Venus are conjunct exactly four minutes later at 7:50 p.m. That’s impressive! A visual feast is on the menu tonight, as both Venus and the crescent moon simultaneously shift from Gemini into Cancer — together.
Right now, I’m in Destin, Florida, of all places — aka the supposed shark capital of the world. Finally un-landlocked, I’m hoping for clear skies over the ocean and a couple of fins cresting the waves. Cue the “dun dun… dun dun” from Jaws as the sun sets and the moon and Venus alight.
Venus represents our feminine aspects, Mars our masculine sides, and the moon our soul. When they change signs together, and two converge, all within ninety minutes, we’re floating in something stirring below the surface.
Taurus slows Mars down and grounds the little fella. Cancer is a feeler, so our feminine sides will get a dose of emotions. Same from the moon. Shifting from quick-witted, fast-talking Gemini into heart-centered, nurturing Cancer could bring a nice reprieve from the incessant head trash.
This display of Venus and the crescent new moon uniting is always spectacular to behold. These two connecting plays a starring role in the first written story we have. When the moon joins Venus, they symbolize the goddess Inanna reclaiming her power as she rises out of the underworld. She was just stripped bare and died. Now, she’s going through the initiation of rebirth, reclaiming herself through seven gates, as she journeys back to the surface. If we overlay the seven chakras to these ancient Sumerian and Babylonian gates, tonight brings us to the heart chakra — right in Cancer’s wheelhouse.
I find it intriguing that the moon and Venus conjoin once they’ve both entered Cancer, not mere minutes before in Gemini, thus seasoning this Venus heart-chakra month with the watery, deep emotional nourishment and love of Cancer. We land in our hearts with Cancer and leave our Gemini headiness behind.
Notice what you’re feeling today. What’s coming up for you in your body (Taurus) and your heart (Venus, Moon, and Cancer)? No need to change it, fix it, or make it better. Just simply notice and be.
You could set an intention for this Venus month from your heart while communing with her and the moon tonight.
Allow yourself to settle in your core for a moment before the sun moves into Gemini on Wednesday, heralding that sign’s season. I’m entranced by tuning into and experiencing the varying energies within.
How do we stay in our Cancer-Venus heart chakras while the sun leads from our Gemini heads? How do we ground our masculine sides into the Taurus earth while the sun activates our thoughts and tongues? That’s the complexity of being human. We’re submerged in a sea of conflicting energies, instincts, and desires.
Meanwhile, here in shark-infested Destin, I’ll be upstairs playing the vintage Jaws pinball machine, tucked into a kid’s bedroom, keeping one eye on the water and the other on the sky.
