A half-lit moon will be towering above our southern mountains at sunrise on Monday. It’s the waning last-quarter moon, quickly losing light, traversing back to the sun for another new moon on Labor Day. As the moon disappears, it provides a little elbow room for introspection.

Aligning our personal tempo to the phases of the moon helps us create the aliveness we desire to experience. We, too, have an intrinsic rhythm that ebbs and flows, that wanes and waxes like the moon. This is the penultimate influence of astrology, providing a guide for working intentionally with the forces, rather than being abruptly buffeted around by our ignorance of it.

This instinctively inward-focused time, of the vanishing moon, is contrasted against this particular last-quarter moon being in social, outgoing, energetic Gemini. How do we flitter between going inward and outward simultaneously? Get curious and go with where the wind blows you is Gemini’s mantra.

Use that activated Gemini mind to reflect on your previous new-moon intention. Were you able to accomplish it? Do you need additional time to get there? Or are you feeling pulled in a completely different direction now? If so, what are you imagining your upcoming Virgo new-moon goal will be? You have a contemplative week to figure it out.

On Wednesday, Mercury stations direct. Chicken Little can stop worrying and fretting about now. What can we blame our issues on next? Poor Mercury is the celestial family scapegoat.

If you feel like you’ve been ripping your hair out in frustration, Mercury retrograde offers a perfect opportunity to look under the hood. It’s not Mercury’s fault, so why have some things been making you crazy? Are you overly attached to stuff going a certain way?

If you find yourself in a power struggle with Mercury, it’s an invitation to examine the problems underlying the struggle. Often control issues are what I find for myself. I hate admitting that!
