ur planetary mind representative, Mercury, enters cerebral Virgo on Monday, doubling the intellectual energies. Virgo, an earth sign, utilizes its thinking cap practically, focusing on what it sees and feels, but it’s a brainiac, nevertheless. Once again, we may be prompted to navigate that consistent modern dilemma of learning how to ground ourselves and get out of our heads, as Mercury traverses the Virgo wedge of the sky.
Virgo is a sign whose job in olden days was to track the cycles of the earth and sky. She was the priestess in our community (or he was the druid in the Celtic tradition). She lived a little outside the village, watching religiously for the signs of the ever-changing earth and sky. She would track the movements of the sun, noting we are quickly falling into the autumnal equinox. She would notice the golden rabbitbrush blooming, the sagebrush flowering and blonde leaves leisurely highlighting the landscape. She would pay attention to the squirrels hoarding spruce cones or the geese honking, signaling to the flock, “We’re so outta here.”
Virgo’s sacred job is reminding us to revere the earth from which we come and rely on for life. She tells us it’s time to plan the fall harvest ceremony so we can gather our food before the winter frosts arrive.
Virgo is cerebral but in a spiritual and sensible way. Her holy work is paying attention to the patterns, so she can guide us to give thanks in ceremony to the earth and rationally prepare our lives for the coming cold and snow. If your Mercury mind gets ramped up while our smallest planet moves through Virgo, follow her lead and connect to our plentiful nature; ground yourself in the emerging fall beauty. This is the perfect way to get out of your head and back into your body.
Our next major astrological event comes on Sept. 17 with the Pisces full moon and a partial lunar eclipse.
